Building Bridges
Since the times of Athenian democracy, we have understood the importance
of the common man participating in the social momentum, and politics
of the time in which he lives. We can mobilize the people into
the biggest entity of all, and global information connection is
the way to do that. If done correctly, the Internet can be a productive
changing reflection of the articulated desires of the people through
their participation, and popular consensus.
Earth and the Internet
If we can start to compile all the greatest ideals, of the best
thinkers, then we can gain a world’s eye view of the universal
tendencies of the masses. Then, through accurate consensus, by popular
vote, the highly valued ideals will rise to the top of the list,
and the less valued ideals will remain at the bottom. Out of information
anarchy will rise an order. This order is born of an innate utility
to work toward civility in the interest of survival. The Internet
provides the perfect opportunity to compile a wide reaching database,
and let the universal tendencies come to the surface in their own
potentiality.
The
Website
The
website we are developing will attempt to draw people of different
ideals together in a cooperative collective. We will present a mechanism
that works in levels, and is ever changing within those levels to
meet the popular desire of the people. The people themselves will
submit the ideals to evaluate, and the people themselves will vote
to accept, or reject the ideals. The most popular ideals will rise
to the top, while other ideals will remain searchable. As times
and people change, their votes will change, and the ideology will
grow to reflect their desires. In the past, the people did not have
the technology to put together a purely mathematical unbiased mechanism.
When people can see the difference they make, in a completely transparent
system, their confidence in the system is confidence in themselves.
Sites like this one are just the beginning. It will take years to
develop this idea into a social structure the people can use for
the future, but we will take the small steps now that will allow
us to open the gates, and walk into a different world of new ideas.
Pyramid
Hierarchy

Input
Modes- First, the participant will chose the mode in which
he/she would like to present their ideas: Issue Resolve, Proposition,
or Essay.
Open Submission Level- Second, the participant
will chose a sub-pyramid by subject to submit their input. If the
participant has trouble categorizing their idea, there will be a
“General Submission” pyramid for them to submit to.
The open submission pyramids are a simple, consensual voting model.
The participant simply submits their input (ex. Essay, into the
Religion pyramid), and, selects a target level to enter the Universal
Pyramid, such as Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 depending on the physical
severity of the proposed subject matter. The most popular rise to
the top of the list, while others remain searchable.
Universal Pyramids- As the three input types rise
to the top of their respective sub-pyramids, they move closer and
closer to their goal of entering into the Universal Pyramid. When
they reach enough votes to move from the open level, into the Universal
levels they become recognized, and illuminated. Once they have entered
the Universal Pyramids the essays, propositions and issue/resolve’s
become active to be printed in print on demand, real time books
that can be purchased.
Understanding
the Mechanism
Imagine having a voice in the control, and order, of the life in
which you live. This voice does not guarantee that you will be able
to change things exactly the way you want, but it will give you
a traceable voice that you can see in a mathematical difference.
If you support an ideal in your profile, and during some studies,
you decide that you no longer support that ideal, you can simply
go to your profile and change your mind. The statistical calculations
of the popularity of that ideal will change instantly, and the articulation
of your electronic stand will be known instantly. When searching
the database for statistical information on certain ideals, we can
see if support is waxing or waning, according to popular consensus.
In
a member profile there will be many functions available for participation.
Every ideal that has been passed will have an option to support,
or undermine. The participant will make their voice heard on every
issue they care to participate in. They may also submit their own
ideas for popular ideals. The success of their contributions will
depend on the popularity of the idea, and also the credibility of
the submitting party. One goal of this structure is to create a
competing environment for ideology, and lifestyle. If we create
a structure, where thinking individuals can submit their ideas and
become popular with the participating people, then those ideas will
become highlighted, and the people that learn from them will become
better people. This mechanism will allow people to compete, in a
way that allows them to grow to be great, and good individuals and
harnesses the power of competition to refine virtue.
Conclusion
There are many moderate people who just want to live content and
satisfactory lives, in utilitarian ideals, hoping that others may
live their lives out in content and satisfactory ways also. It is
in the people’s best interest to mobilize globally under ideals
they support directly in majority. While this website will only
try to capture the imaginations, and popular will of English speaking
people at this time, I can only hope that it will grow in a way
to encompass an international consensus, and be a focal point for
building bridges to a peaceful future. |

Participant Profile
The
participant will have all the basic information input in their profile.
In this sense the website will be very similar to many networking
sites they have participated in. They will input name, age, gender,
home page, marital status, education, place of origin, race, ideological
orientation, hobbies, books, movies, music, and they will also have
the ability to post blogs, essays, articles, poetry and they can
participate in forum threads, much like Myspace.
Unique
Additions
In
addition to all the normal networking functions, the participant
will have the opportunity to submit their ideas in a preconceived
format, set forth by Civil Simian. The website will offer a section
called Propositions, and another called Issue/Resolve.
Propositions
Participants
will be prompted to express their beliefs in a propositional form,
that can be easily understood. Propositions will be limited to 200
words maximum, but 100 preferable to keep a handle on the way in
which the ideas are presented. Here are a couple samples of propositional
submissions:
No
man shall take the life of another, unless in defense of his own,
or in defense of the people under his protection.
or,
If
a person is inquired of to answer about a subject in which they
only know a partial truth, that person will either decline to answer,
or, present the partial truth to the best of their ability. The
person will not however use certain parts of that truth to drive
any opportunistic agenda. Either offer a declination, or exhibit
your most honest offering.
Issue/Resolve
Issue/Resolve
is a format we came up with in order to address different types
of situations that could arise at any time, or in any time period.
Basically, any social issue that a person believes needs to be addressed,
they may present that idea, and also present a solution to the best
of their knowledge. Here is an example:
Issue:
People are sneaking across the border in the United States,
and since the United States acts as a sort of world police force,
there are many people with ill intent trying to get in. How should
the US secure the borders?
Resolve:
Motion sensors, and quick action vehicles should limit the crossings.
Using
Popularity to Drive Creativity
When
we think about the noblest points of what makes democracy great,
we start to understand how we can make it better. What makes democracy
great is the feeling that every person can make a difference. The
problem is, that difference is only as affective as the person can
trace the difference that they made. If they cannot see the difference
they have contributed, they become apathetic, and it is simple mathematics
from this point on. Basically, unless you are unusually driven,
then you will be as apathetic as the system you participate in is
opaque. We must preserve transparency, and in turn preserve the
confidence of the people in themselves. That is why we devised the
simple mathematical mechanism, which uses popularity to drive noble
ideas to the top, where they belong, through popular consensus.
Essentially, if we can make people who hold productive beliefs and
values into “rock stars” in a sense, then we can use
the energy of competition to refine popular universal values into,
what would amount to an electronic mono-mechanistic anthropological
moral value collective. It works so eloquently because as time changes,
the database will change with the lives of the masses. It will speak
directly to values being followed by the virtuous of the day, while
giving the people confidence that they can participate in the formation
of the ideals of their day, while they are living their day.
Voting for Propositions
As
participants put forward propositions to be supported or undermined,
they will also vote on the propositions of others. They will be
presented with a scale –5,-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4,5. A vote
of -5 will completely cancel another participants vote of +5, and
all mathematical combinations in between. There will be different
levels of participation also. Participants will have status indicators
such as Jade, Emerald, or Diamond. A Jade will only vote -1,0,1,
and Emerald will vote with -2,-1,0,1,2, and a Diamond level will
vote the entire gamut of -5,-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4,5. If a participant
votes 0, they will have taken a stand on the issue, but they will
not sway the vote count either way. They will only be counted in
the member statistics on that vote. This offers a way for people
who are undecided to stand mathematically as agnostic, or undecided.
Status designators will be earned by education, number of posts,
number of positive supporters, and basically merit and integrity
with the system. The most popular submissions will rise to the top,
and be considered for inclusion in the upper four levels, while
the other ideas will remain searchable.
Each
level will have a designated number of positive votes in order for
a proposition to enter the ideological pyramid. All submissions
will go directly to the open level where they will have the same
chance to grow, with the advantage going to the participant with
merit, in that people may search Diamond level submissions, so,
Jade level submissions may not get the attention a Diamond would.
Regardless of status, all new posts enter in the open level and
grow support to enter the pyramid at their height. There will be
a set number of propositions possible at any particular level in
the pyramid. When that number is reached, a new proposition cannot
enter the pyramid without another being pushed out. As certain propositions
gain more and more votes, they become more and more difficult to
push out, therefore being more and more ideologically valuable to
the people of that time. As time goes on, the values in the pyramid
gain more and more votes, pushing the value of certain ideals up
and up, and pushing the value of the pyramid higher and higher giving
the participants a goal to work for, essentially learning about
themselves and other people in the process.

In a time where people around the globe are divided in ideological
differences, our company will build bridges between them, using
information technology to assess their desires, and organize them
in a collective manner, so as to be useful in understanding themselves
as a whole. We will construct a database of common beliefs submitted
by the people that they will read, and vote to support or undermine.
Each person will have a voice, and will be counted in consensus
in real time.
What
we intend to do as a company, is to present the world with a superior

Civil Simian is entering an industry that is largely undiscovered,
and analyzing its possibility we find the participants (customers)
to be divided in their directives. It is not often that people believe
they can bring to bear realistically such a daunting task, such

Globalization
in a sense that we will try to merge ideas, culture and beliefs
across any land and water mass through this mathematical mechanism.

Our
goal is to use the basic mathematics of database technology, and
fuse it together with the basic mathematics of human contingency.
This idea is staring us in the face mathematically, but we finally
have the technology to realize it.

We
will provide a new mono-mechanistic view that changes in real time,

in the time in which they live, and changing to reflect the ideals
of the changes of that time.

and Continuity
In
the future, with the looming possibility of nuclear war, the heated

context speaks to the need for bridge building between different

There
is not much competition for our organization to enter our area of
interest. We have a few assets we have yet to acquire, such as our
own server, the programming of the mechanism, and useful contributors.
These are the current needs to be worked on immediately.
Out
of convenience, our organization will operate out of the United
States. Our mission is to expand to all areas of the globe, bridging
language barriers, and merging universal ideological standards.
This international expansion is the paramount mission of the organization.

Starting
Small
While
reading this plan, you may be struck by the size and scope of our
undertaking. Let me assure you, while it is an immense undertaking,
explaining the idea makes it seem more difficult than it is.
Starting
small with a Chief Executive, and a Web Developer we will acquire
a server to begin hosting our site. Then we can easily download
a generic MySQL website with all the basic functions such as basic
profiles, blogs, forums, essays and articles.
After
getting the simple website started, we will begin to code the mathematics
necessary in the pyramid. This will take the majority of the time,
and will be the major step necessary to gain attention, and bring
originality to the site.
After
linking the profiles to the pyramid, we will be able to collect
information, and soon after we will be able to start selling books.
This will be the first step, and we will spend time to work on security,
and server side applications.

We
have many possible opportunities in our area of growth. Our largest
opportunity is we have the leading role in defining our market.
We will provide our participants with a service that they did not
realize they needed, giving us a head start in gaining the loyalty

With books able to be published one at a time, we will set up a
system that will print real time books for customers. These database

Threats
There
is the possibility that the website will be to complicated for the
average person to understand. This means we are under constant pressure
to simplify.
Hackers
will try to undermine the system in any way possible. We will have
to be alert, and work to maintain the integrity of the system.
There
is always the threat the overhead will overwhelm the revenue, but
we have a solid plan to avoid this.

like the Friendster.com story, where they were the first one in
the market, but Myspace.com took off, and passed them straight to
the number one spot, we have to be ready to out perform any copy

At
this time, I am focused on developing the mathematics of the mechanism,
and working on a presentation that can take an idea of such wide
focus, and explain it to someone with an extremely short attention

Our
organization will market to nearly every demographic, paying special
attention to international support. We will not expect suppport
from the age group of 13 yrs, or younger, but we do expect support
from all age groups after. We also expect support from all class
levels, education levels, racial backgrounds, and ideological orientations.
We will market to all, as all who question what it is to understand
their relationship with the society they live in, will be interested
in participating.
Finance
When
we gain attention, then I expect to pull in revenues from Blue Chip
advertisers, while publishing books. We will investigate new ways
to make money in this type of system. We will start reselling books
on important social subjects that fit the theme of the website.
This will be the first step in bringing a revenue stream.
